What is a Spinal Cord Stimulator Trial?

A Spinal Cord Stimulator or Dorsal Column Stimulator is a type of implantable neuromodulation device that is used to send electrical signals to select areas of the spinal cord for the treatment of certain pain conditions.  The procedure can be offered to a patient with chronic and severe neuropathic pain (sensation from damaged nerve tissue) and who, for a variety of reasons, cannot undergo or has already undergone spinal surgery.
